So You Are Thinking Of Keeping Chickens?

This course is aimed at the total beginner and especially those who are thinking about chicken keeping for the first time. You will gain a really good insight into the practicalities, time committment and monies involved.

This is a hands on course with the chickens being the hosts and the star attractions!! I will guide you through all the necessary equipment and accessories required.

During the course, you will learn about housing, the run, food, cleaning, pests, breeds, integration, costs, basic healthcare, weather issues, free range, dangers and other pets, holidays, eggs and of course the pecking order!

Accompanied childrren are very welcome but the garden isn't suitable for pushchairs. Prior arrangements for wheelchairs please.

This is an outdoor course and so please be prepared for all weathers.

Course notes and light refreshements will be provided. Please advise as to any dietry requirements. 10% of fees will be donated to the British Hen Welfare Trust

Chickens are the most delightful and happy creatures you can care for and we have been keeping them for several years and they are a big part of our family.

My flock currently stands at eight - made up of five different types. Orchard Cottage is also home to two very spoilt rescue Lurchers and three pigeons who have adopted us!

Originally from New Zealand, we live opposite Epsom Common just off the A24 near Epsom Hospital and our chickens have their own Cube and Eglu in a "gated community" at the back of the garden.

My course is designed for anyone who is thinking of keeping chickens for the first time but can be tailored for those who already have their own flock and would like more guidance up to an intermediate level.
