Hi. My name is Sharon and I'm addicted to chickens! Choosing to keep chickens is one of the best decisions I've ever made. Being a lover of all living things, and having spent considerable time convincing my husband what a great idea it would be to have chickens in our back garden, I realised my dream in 2005 - and have never looked back. My Eglu and 2 Omlet girls were delivered on October 14th (an unforgettable date in my calendar) and I have spent many days and months watching them, sitting in the garden and enjoying their company, laughing at their antics, and talking endlessly to my friends and family about them. Their delicious eggs are an added bonus. I am currently the proud owner of ten ex-battery hens (rescued by the British Hen Welfare Trust) called Wisteria, Susan, Gabrielle, Lynette, Bree, Dorothy, Sophia, Florence, Anna and Edith; also the adorable Missy, the only survivor of a fox attack on my neighbour's flock, and Lisa, the chicken of friends who simply didn't want her any more, a Pekin bantam called Maud, and three Silkies, Five, China and their cockerel guardian, Blue. They are all simply brilliant and make me smile each and every day. My Cube arrived in January 2009 ... providing even more room for even more girls! Anyone and everyone would be very welcome - another great opportunity for me to show off my girls. BE WARNED though - chicken-keeping is habit-forming. Firstly I would like to say a big thank you to Sharon for inviting us into her beautiful home and to spend time with her girls (the chickens). The course was fantastic and a must for anybody thinking of having chickens or like us who already had the chickens and an eglu on order from Omlet. We learnt so much but more importantly came away feeling completely confident to look after our own chickens. Sharon was welcoming, accommodating and answered all of our questions. She talked us through the chickens routines and has extensive knowledge of looking after chickens. Sharon showed us how to handle the chickens and how to pick them up and we had fun trying to pick them up ourselves. From being very nervous about picking the chickens up I left feeling confident that I will be able to do it with my own chickens when they arrive. I have to say the lemon drizzle cake looked amazing, I do not like cake (very strange I know) but my husband thought it was the best cake he had ever eaten and has set me the challenge to make one for him! Sharon expect an email asking for the recipe soon! Thanks again for a brilliant course, do not hesitate to book on this course with Sharon as you will not be disappointed
We are/ were rank amateurs with little knowledge; until a couple of weeks ago, I thought a cockerel was required to produce eggs. We clearly had a lot to learn. Sharon was lovely; most welcoming, knowledgeable and easy-going throughout. We enjoyed a few questions & answers before we started, then onto picking up the chickens; now that was something of a challenge to start with, but with Sharon's guidance, we soon got used to it. A very full 2 hours of advice, guidance and practical instruction in Eglu and chicken management. Sharon proved to be a good teacher and we left in high spirits. Altogether, excellent value. We both feel confident enough to take on some chickens without embarrassing ourselves or hurting the chickens. To cap a great course, we enjoyed homemade lemon drizzle cake and a cuppa before departing. Excellent all round.
Sharon very kindly welcomed me into her home and I spent a very infomative couple of hours learning about chicken keeping, handling chickens etc. I wanted to see the Eglu and how it was set up and to learn about a daily routine. I brought 3 Warrens home today, so far so good and I am very pleased I attended the course as I feel very confident now with them. The cup of tea and delicious lemon cake were a delightful way to end the session.
We had a very informative, and very enjoyable morning with Sharon and her girls. They were very patient, answered all our daft questions, showed us how to hold a hen without breaking it, and gave us straightforward advice on all the practical stuff. And to top it all off, we had delicious lemon cake and tea in Sharon's lovely house, and met her old labrador Ebony. Thank you for giving us the confidence to look after our own girls - they're on order already!
Well the heavens opened and remained open for the duration of the party!! Undaunted we continued as planned. This did not affect the "girls" in any way, they came and observed the new humans and found us quite boring! Sharons knowledge and ability made the course extremely useful, I would highly recommend Sharon and her hens. I've also been prompted to mention the post-course refreshments, scrumptious!
We decided after this course to go ahead and purchase a new Omlet Cube. Having the chance to handle the chickens and get first hand knowledge from Sharon helped us in knowing that we now have enough knowledge to get started and look after them correctly. If any one is thinking of keeping chickens then you won't go wronge with attending one of Sharons excellant courses. And she makes a very good cake as well. We had a lovely day out made to feelvery welcome by Sharon.
Not knowing anything about keeping chickens my wife and I attended Sharons Beginers course and found it to be most excellent. We came away with the knowledge that we needed to confidantly start to keep chickens and how to keep them happy and healthy. We were welcomed by such a nice friendly host in Sharon and would recommend that you attend her course and you get to eat a very nice cake as well. :-)
We had a very enjoyable hen party with Sharon who was happy to let us handle her chickens and who gave us lots of helpful information and tips as well as the necessary confidence for when my own two girls arrived today! Just sorry we couldn't do justice to her home-baked cake!
My daughter and I had a brilliant time at Sharon's hen party. It was informative and made me even more excited about getting my ex-bat girls (who I now have). We met Sharons "girls" and got to find out the pleasures and the nuts and bolts of hen keeping. All in all highly recommended ... and the lemon cake was lovley too!
My daughter and I could not have been made more welcome by Sharon. She put us all at our ease and so did her 'girls' . It was lovely to see hens in a real live garden situation before we take the plunge ourselves! We learn't so much from her as she was extremely knowledgable and 'hands'on'. It was a cold morning but a hot cup of coffee and a delicious piece of homemade lemon cake in Sharon's kitchen helped us to thaw out. If you want to keep hens this is the lady to talk to; for her common sense approach and concern for the wellbeing of her feathered friends! Thanks again Sharon.
