Hen Party For Beginners

During 2-3 hours we'll show you what to look out for in a healthy chicken, how to deal with minor ailments and what to keep in your chicken first aid kit - yes, we do actually have a chicken first aid kit and it's amazing how handy it's been.

We'll talk about what to expect when you get your chickens home for the first time and what to expect when you get to point of lay including what to feed them to ensure that you get the most delicious fresh eggs with golden yokes.

Our birds will range from 7 weeks to 12 months at the time of the course, some we have bought from breeders, some we have raised from hatching eggs we purchased and 4 are chicks that we've hatched from breeding our own chickens.

So we're pretty sure that you'll find our course set on our 11 acre smallholding enjoyable, fun and most importantly very very beneficial. You'l even get to meet Dougal, Dylan and Florence our very own 3 little pigs.

About 6 months ago we started keeping chickens for the very first time, 8 ladies and 1 cream legbar cockerel named Benedict! When we started out somebody told us it's the most addictive and rewarding hobby you can have - 32 birds and a number of chicks later we have to agree! There is nothing quite like going to find out how many eggs you have that day and whether you've got one or two blue eggs from Senga and Agnes our two cream legbars, who along with the rest of our happy flock roam freely around our 11 acre smallholding in the Lanarkshire countryside.

In those 6 months we've learned so much that we'd love to take the oppotunity to share our knowledge wiith other chicken enthusiasts starting out for the first time.
