Not working as well as I hoped....
Lila, Powys,
In 7 years of hen keeping, I have never had problems with feather pecking. I guess it's the longer days, combined with the endless bird flu lockdown, my hens are getting bored. I had high hopes for this product, given all the rave reviews. Anyway, it certainly stains the feathers, but doesn't seem to last long on the bare skin. I'm spraying every 3 days. Although the problem does seem to have eased, the poor hen that they are picking on still has fresh wounds. I will continue using for a while longer.

Tar stayed on for a day - Chickens loved it!
Adam,
Thought this would be the answer to stopping the dominant chickens from pecking feathers from the chest of the most submissive... nope.. within 24hrs both the submissive one and the entire flock decided that they needed to clean all the stockholm tar off of the chicken. She now has fewer feathers than she did before.

Purple spray stains -wear gloves!
Louise,
Bought this to spray on new rescue chicken who was bald in places, to help lessen impact of integration with my existing girls. Wear gloves! My hands went a very bright shade of purple and took ages to wash off! Chicken was purple for weeks afterwards! But did seem to lessen the attacks on her.

Helpful
Polly,
Yes, it certainly deters chicken bullies from pecking unassuming members of the flock. Must taste bad. When the pecked, bloody patches are covered in tar, the vulnerable chicken seems to relax a little, join the flock, step forward for food etc. Sadly have to re-apply after heavy rain but our bullied chicken is getting used to the routine. She never objects so the tar must feel quite soothing although it's a sticky business to apply. She can till flap her wings, poor sausage! We are considering making their playground more adventurous and possibly introducing more chickens to see if this helps. We only have 4. Tar is helpful but maybe need a better, longer term solution, beyond keeping her on her own.

Slow but sure
Elaine, Sir Gaerfyrddin,
My lovely Ivy lost her neck feathers over a few days though I didn't see who was pulling them out. I wasn't sure the spray was going to help to start with as Ivy was constantly preening it off, despite the promise that it tasted horrid, but a few weeks later with a spray every few days he feathers are growing back...but she looks quite cute without them!

Works well, heals well, looks lovely!
Elaine,
An old battery girl had a very sore bottom which encouraged some of the others to investigate and make her more sore, the colour may not match her eyes and be careful not to get it on your clothes, but it does the job very well and she doesn't mind the indignity of the mismatched colour scheme either.

A plaster for chickens !
Finola,
I bought this as my broody silkies had pulled each other’s head feathers out and drawn blood. It sealed the wound and allowed it to heal. Very messy - so wear gloves when applying!
