I have a few backyard chickens and are very happy with the 3 Vorwerks. One is a cockerel and he certainly keeps the hens together when free ranging. Recently hatched some Barnevelder and they are beautiful and are clearly calmer than the Vorwerk. Very happy that I didn't need to buy any eggs for the last 4 years or so.
