So I can't give them lettuce from my garden?

Concerned that you have not said whether sweetcorn offered to quail should be cooked. As I understand it, incompletely cooked sweetcorn can release cyanide.

I have a quail family living in my yard - young chicks. I’ve put out a flat dish of water ( out temps are in 90’s right now ) which I’ll refill 2 X’s daily. I have spread a very small amount of rough rolled oats under a prickly pear. Would the oats be a problem for the babies ? If so, I’ll gather them up as soon as I hear from you. Thank you

I want to raise quail mostly bc I love all animals but I want to raise them for the eggs that I’ve heard are very nutritious. Have no idea how to do this but have been reading up on raising quail. I live in Augusta , Ga. so right now it’s cold. Will bring eggs inside when I get them. Not sure what kind of brooder I can afford but as I said I’m just starting. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much, Robin

Actually layer pellet can cause liber damage to malesits best to feed them adult game bird pellet and not chicken Even if it is female game layer woukd be better because quail need more protein than chickens

The injured wing is a ruse. Most likely the male views you as a threat to his nest, & is trying to lead you away... This is a natural instinct of birds of most species.

Dee, You can take any wild animal to any vet as they are require by law to treat wild animals.

what should you do if your bird is eating and drinking well but is losing weight

A quail has made a nest in a small rosemary plant in my courtyard. The male appears to have an injured wing. Can I or should I not set out food for them? If so should it be something special since she is sitting on her nest. She just got done laying all of her eggs and began sitting on her nest 2 days ago. I see the male running around like a nut with that injured wing. It breaks my heart. How can I help? Thanks so much!
