Product FAQs

What coops is it compatible with?

The Smart Fan is compatible with the Eglu Pro, as well as most DIY coops made of wood. If you have an Eglu Pro there are already fixing points in the front panel of the coop, but if you’re attaching to a wooden coop you will need to cut a small hole to allow the fan to expel air.

The Smart Fan is not compatible with the Eglu Cube, Go UP or Go, or any kind of run/wire.

Can I add more than one fan?

For the Eglu Pro, you will only need one fan, and there is only one slot for fastening the fan.

If you have a DIY coop you can add as many fans as you like and think you need to speed up the process of changing the air and keeping the coop fresh. How many fans you need depends on the size of the coop.

How often should I clean the filter?

This depends on how much passes through the filter, but we recommend checking the filter regularly, and to clean it every two months. If you have connected your fan to the Omlet app, it will remind you when it’s time to clean the filter.

How can I power my fan?

The fan must be connected to mains power through the cable that comes with the product and should be plugged into a weatherproof plug socket.

How do I download the app?

The Omlet App is available in the Google Play store for Android users, and the App Store for iOS users.

Simply open the relevant app store and search for "Omlet", or use the following links:

What are the default settings?

When you’re starting your Smart Fan for the first time, or if you’re running the fan without connecting it to the Omlet app, it will run at full speed for as long as it’s connected.

Do I need to use the app?

To get the best experience of the Smart Fan, we recommend connecting it to the Omlet app, where you will be able to turn the fan on and off remotely and change the speed.

There is also a boost setting which you can use to efficiently freshen up the coop, for example 30 minutes before your chickens go to bed, or around the time you know most of them are laying.

However, if you don’t want to use the app, you can just connect the fan as and when you want to refresh the coop. If you still want to be able to control when the fan is on, you can add a timer switch.

How close to Wi-Fi does my coop need to be?

This depends on the strength of your Wi-Fi, but it’s advisable to keep the fan within 20 metres of a Wi-Fi source.

We recommend that you connect your phone to the Wi-Fi network you want to use and go stand in the place where you want to put the fan. If your phone indicates a good Wi-Fi signal, it should be sufficient to use with the Smart Fan.

If your phone only shows one bar of Wi-Fi, or none at all, then you could find the signal is too weak for the fan to work effectively in Wi-Fi mode. You may wish to move the coop or access point to improve coverage, purchase a range extender, or you can just run the fan in default mode.

Will the fan lower the temperature in my coop?

The Omlet Smart Fan is a ventilation fan; it extracts and displaces air, cooling air like aircon, so it will not actively lower the temperature of the coop.

It will however change the air in the coop at a higher speed, so if the outside temperature is lower than that inside the coop it will get the coop to an ambient temperature quicker.

Why should I add a fan?

The Omlet Smart Fan will keep your coop fresh quicker than with existing ventilation by actively changing the air inside. This is done by drawing fresh air into the coop and extracting wet, pathogen filled air.

A buildup of moisture can over time lead to respiratory problems in chickens and airborne pathogens such as ammonia will reduce egg production and can make your flock very ill.

Additionally, the fan will regulate the temperature inside the coop and reduce the build up of warm air, humidity and condensation to keep your flock more comfortable in hot weather.

How do I attach the fan to a wooden coop?

You will need to cut an exit hole for the fan on your coop and fasten it with some small wood screws. Full instructions on how to do this can be found here.

What size drill do I need if attaching to a wooden coop?

It’s useful if you have a 2mm drill bit for a pilot hole and a 10mm drill bit to allow the blade of a jigsaw or smaller saw through when you’re making the exit hole in your coop.

What is Air Changes Per Hour?

ACPH stands for Air changes per hour, and is the number of times in an hour that all the air within an area is completely removed and replaced. Changing the air regularly prevents condensation and removes wet air filled with pathogens released from your chickens and their poop.

The ACPH on the Eglu Pro with the fan running is 17.2, so the air in the coop changes completely over 17 times in an hour. Recommendation for animal housing is normally 10-15, depending on size, number of animals and passive airflow in the environment.
