Our introductory course offers an opportunity for you to see how chicken keeping fits into daily family life! This session is designed as an introduction to keeping chickens and there will be ample opportunity to ask your own questions over tea and cake. While you're with us we'll aim to cover:
1) The best place to put your chickens and how to protect them from wily foxes
2) Daily care for your chickens
3) How to hold and handle a chicken (if you can catch one!)
4) Knowing a healthy chicken and keeping those bugs away
5) What to feed you chickens
6) Eggs and laying
The majority of the course takes place outside so please come suitably dressed, we recommend wellies and a raincoat. The hosts of this course accept no responsibility for any loss or injury while on the premises. By booking on this course you are agreeing to these terms.
Little Lodge Farm was started in 2010 by Jodie & Nigel as a family run smallholding in Knowle, Solihull. It has always been important to us that our children learn about animals whilst at the same time appreciating where their food comes from. There is no better way to do this than collecting your own eggs, enjoying your own bacon sandwich and picking some home grown veg. It really does give you a different perspective on food!
Since the creation of Little Lodge Farm we have developed our chicken courses to cover pretty much anything you need to know about keeping chickens and also offer an excellent chicken boarding service at the farm for those times when you have to be away from home. Through development of our smallholding and the Hen Project, we are also extremely proud to be able to provide individuals and groups with the opportunity to keep chickens for a period of time by renting them off us. Feel free to email with any questions.
At Little Lodge Farm we offer three different chicken courses which are tailored to suit beginners, families or those who perhaps already have chickens. Our courses are very relaxed and there is always ample opportunity to ask your own questions and share your stories whilst enjoying a slice of cake and cup of tea!
After all of courses you will be provided with our Little Lodge Farm course notes and member discounts on other Courses, Chicken Boarding and the Hen Project.
