Waiting for the girls to grow
We have assembled the Eglu Cube and it is almost ready to welcome our girls. Since the auto door is on back order we will not attach the top until it is installed. It was so much fun working on this project together. Great quality and very sturdy, I like being able to make it to our specific needs. It can be moved but will probably remain in place for at least a year. We have coyotes, raccoons, dogs, cats, snakes, barn owls and several hawks in our area. Probably some water dwellers too since we are near a water source, so it was important to us to add 1/2 hardware cloth up the sides of the 13' run. We placed the run next to an old unused dog lot and added aviary netting. We think we did okay for our needs in the city.

Good product
I bought this about a month ago, and so far it's proving to be a solid coop. Some of my hens do not like the roosting area, they prefer to be able to lay down in bedding but the roosting area is all bars to roost on. I just put some hay in the back half so they can lay there, otherwise most of them want to sleep in the egg box area. I'm not going to lie, this coop is a bear to put together. The instructions do not specify for instance that you have to put the run together BEFORE you finish putting the coop together, so I had to take it apart once I found a youtube video to explain that. Also, the parts were numbered incorrectly, so locating which part I was supposed to be using wasn't always easy. The part would have one number on it, and the manual wouldn't show any parts with that number, the number wouldn't exist, so I had to match up the pictures. They must have changed numbers with a new manual and mis-printed. I would expect with the expense of this coop that it would be seamless, it wasn't. Also, the run is held together with twist ties and plastic clips. I was shocked to see this, when I consider how expensive this coop was, I would have expected that Omlet would splurge on stainless steel ties at the very least, not plastic. I don't expect the plastic to last long in the Florida sun. For this reason, i give the run a thumbs down, it doesn't feel safe. The coop itself is safe and strong and user-friendly. We are going to change out all the cheap zip ties to stainless steel and hope for the best on the run. I am wondering if we add on the larger walk in run, if it will be help together with cheap plastic zip ties and plastic clips as well. That would be very tough to set up, and for the high cost of the walk-in run, I would expect more. This will be a factor in whether we bother to expand the run with Omlet, or go with a much less expensive chain link, that will be held together with stronger material.

Omlet response:
Hi Sharon,
Thank you for your feedback.
Your comments have been passed on to the appropriate teams for review.
The plastic used for the clips is very sturdy and provides a high level of safety to your run.
We have been selling our runs in warm regions and we have not heard about any issues regarding a deterioration in their quality due to the sun.
Choosing a DIY system is possible, however it is also important to note that by using different materials than the ones provided by us, we would not be able to guarantee the same level of safety of the run anymore.
Our Walk-In runs are using the same system of plastic clips, as this has proved to be a flexible and robust method to provide a very safe habitat for chickens.
If you would like to get an idea at the way our Walk-In runs are assembled, we are inviting you to watch our assembly videos, available here.
Please don't hesitate to contact us should you need any further information.

Great design for cleaning
I bought this for an injured/rescue chicken. She had been attacked by a predator and had a rather large wound on her back. One of her legs was sprained as well. As soon as I assembled it and put her in there I left the door open so she could free range but she stayed inside all day. I could feel that she felt really safe there and that she really liked it. Because of her leg injury I had to pick her up and put her in the coop the first week because she couldn't manage the steps. And really at first I was wondering if she was even going to survive but now she is definitely on the mend. In just 2 weeks she has made so much progress. Now she gets up and down the steps just fine. Oh, and I thought the nesting area (indentation) on the tray was too shallow but she loves it and rests there a lot. So what do I know? I guess I'm not a chicken - doh!
What I really liked: Not wood (wood gets so grubby & yucky and deterioates and is hard to clean and is prone to mites); great design for cleaning (locking back door and sliding tray); also great material for staying clean (extruded plastic); coated metal grid should be very durable and I like that it is integral (connected) to the coop, the metal "skirt" is a great design too; I like that the coop is raised off the ground; it is sturdy and once she is inside the coop with both doors locked I can sleep knowing that nothing will get her; and best of all is she loves it and feels safe in there.
What I didn't like as much (but not enough to lower my 5-star rating - just as a matter of fact) is that it was pretty hard for me to put together - but - I am 65, not real mechanically inclined and have arthritis in my hands - so it took me 6 hours. So I would defintely recommend having a helper - I think I could have done it in half the time if I had had another person helping. Also it is smaller than I expected - I could see 2 full grown chickens in there but not 3. On a side note*I will add 1 chicken (pullet) when Miss Penny is 100% healed. And lastly, these coops are expen$ive - but I imagine the import tax from the UK is rather high so that is something out of Eglu's control.
All in all, a great design, order came promptly, the quality of the packaging and the coop itself was a solid 10, I would recommend this product to friends and family.

Excellent coop!
We love this coop! This was an upgrade from the wooden one we built when we first got chickens 6 years ago. It was decent, but after 6 years in the elements, it needed to be replaced. But with two little kids, we needed something simple to put together. This coop was easy to assemble, the chickens love it, and it seems easy to clean! It feels like it will hold up to the elements well too.
It took two adults and one 3 year old about 4 hours to assemble (and that includes time looking for the screwdriver when it had to help blow bubbles in the strawberry patch)

Love the Cube, wheels are a bit tricky
I really love my Eglu Cube. The instructions to put it together were really good and I like that it's so easy to clean and to access the egg and roosting compartment. Most important I feel confident my hens are safe at night. I particularly wanted something I could move easily around my garden on my own every couple of days, but I find it a struggle to hitch the wheels up and to move with the run attached, and it is not easy to remove the run once it's been attached.

Update
I have to update my racing review because it's only been two days in the eglu and I have gotten my first egg today! I think they weren't laying in the old coop because they were so unhappy. Thank you, Omlet!
