Many guinea pigs love quality time with their owners, so handling your guinea pigs is great fun. Once your guinea pig gets to know you, then they’ll enjoy being hand-fed and petted, so it’s up to you how much you hold them - do so as often as you like. However long you leave it, remember they’ll need to be groomed and checked pretty regularly.

Some circumstances in which you shouldn’t handle your guinea pigs are if they have just been born, have just given birth, have just come back from the vets or are poorly. In these circumstances, give your pets a few weeks before handling them, especially those that have been unwell - be sure to give them several weeks to recover and ask your vet when you can start handling your pets again.
