Animals with this amount of hair need a lot of grooming, so many people who are just intending to keep guinea pigs as pets choose either to cut the hair short or to choose a shorter haired variety, such as a Self or a Rex. Some guinea pigs may dislike having such long hair, as they can have their vision and movement impaired.
