We've had parakeets for about 10 years, as we got them from a previous owner. Starting out with 7: two got away from the cage when we took it outdoors, another one female got out one autumn and incredibily 2 summers later saw her perched on the rear yard pine tree! Leaving 4: then another accidentally got away again having left open a gate when outside. That left 2 Beaky, who was the "left-out" male brother who became very healthy when we started paying attention to him & his sis, Susie who was always the youngest of the group. Beaky passed awa a few days ago. (Why--? Don't know exactly) Susie the most carefree of them all is left now! We want to get her at least a companion but all the parakeets in pet shops are young birds, betw 3-5 mos. old. How could we get her some company? She is very Vibrant--we always left the cage gates open for them to fly around their cage whenever they want. They just go in to eat, drink, sleep, hang-out, etc. And I understand it's hard to tell at their young age their sex. So, wondering if you have suggestions? Thanks!!!!

I have three parakeets two male and one female. The boys have recently, from what I have noticed, fighting. I am worried as one has a slight red spot, not blood, but weren't like this before. There hasn't been a change in routine other than me being home more.

I recently rescued 2 males. I had to reach inside their cage to catch one of them due to having an over-grown beak issue. I then had to seriously clean their cage, as it was in dire condition. It did freak them out for a bit, but I think they know what I was trying to do for them??? After cleaning their food dish (which was gross and caked up), washing out their water container and cleaning out all the yucky, I put in 2 blackberry bramble limbs from my garden and they seem very lively. I've had them for 3 days now, I talk to them, sing to them and watch them...how long do you think it will take for them to trust me? I've loved birds for my whole life (46 years), but this is my 1st time owning any.

I recently got two budgies, male and female, and we got them from a home with four young boys who obviously were to rough with them, I’ve had them for about a month now and have been doing daily training and trust sessions with them by opening the cage door and just kinda sitting there with my head down and showing I’m not going to reach into the cage and grab them, and when they get comfortable with that I’ll put my hand near the door, If they panic I pull away but if there calm I’ll gently rest my hand on the cage door recently they’ve let me get my hand inside the cage and just today the female let me pet her. The female is not a problem but the male is, he will bite me aggressively and will start hissing if I get to close, I can understand this but I’m beginning to get worried. I’ve owned budgies before and none of them have ever done this. What should I do?

I have budgie who apart from not flying anymore, healthy enough, but I am worried about her, she just walks round the bottom of her cage, eats food from the bottom or tucks her head in for sleep. Her wings do not appear damaged, although feathers more ruffled than usual. Any help please.

I got 2 new budgies about a week ago, and they're pretty friendly. They eat out of my hand, and I've perched them both on my finger. However, now that I'm pushing on their chest lightly, they run away, what should I do?

My male budgie is doing a large moult and has lots of lin feathers on his head and neck. Some have opened up nicely, however the majority are taking forever. He’s been like this for about 2 months. I’ve managed to get him to hand feed some greens. This took a long time. But he does eat lettuce, spinach and some purple baby leaf that come so the bag. He won’t eat his egg mix or fruit. Should I worry about his mould being so delayed? I adopted him 5 months ago. Thanks

My budgie is making regurgitating actions but nothing is coming out. His wings are spreading as well. Also, he is rather tired.
