I have a female Budgie who has made six eggs five of which have already hatched we had to clean out the nesting box and decided to remove the old cardboard box she had originally nested in we’ve been watching and observing for a few hours and she refuses to go into the box will this be a problem

My female budgie has been sitting on a single egg for about a month now with no interruption from the male budgie. But two days ago the male budgie started entering the nest box and now frequents a visit in their with the female. Can anyone tell me why he is doing this? And shouldn't the egg have hatched by now?
