How Much Do Guinea Pig Vet Bills Cost?

If well cared for then guinea pigs will only rarely need to visit a vet, but if you notice, for example, that your guinea pig is limping, is off its food, isn’t going to the toilet or seems to be in pain then they need to see a veterinarian as quickly as possible.

Sometimes guinea pigs will need veterinary care

Guinea pigs are quite stoical - they are herd animals who try to hide injuries in order to minimise the signs of weakness that they would give off to any potential predators. This means that when you notice something wrong with your pet, then it could be at a late stage, and so your guinea pig likely needs a trip to the vet. Vet bills will vary drastically between treatments, but be aware that some very serious problems can cost hundreds of pounds. Establishing a regular checking routine will help you spot problems early on, to minimise discomfort to your guinea pig and limit the damage to your pocket. Have a look at our 'Guinea Pig Illness' section for more information on common illnesses, and some advice on how to check your pet is healthy.
