A hyperactive, highly affectionate companion that requires specific XXL furniture and attention - Nikolay,
Living with my young Oriental boy, Ocean, has been a wild ride. This isn't your typical independent, quiet cat. He is my literal shadow and has a very loud opinion on absolutely everything I do around the apartment. I quickly learned that their unique, elongated anatomy means standard pet gear is completely useless. Because his spine is so long, I had to buy a heavy 41-inch scratching post just so he could fully stretch without hunching over. Standard enclosed litter boxes gave him claustrophobia, so I had to switch to a massive open stainless steel pan. To handle his explosive zoomies without tearing up the condo, I even had to get a 51-inch Ferris exercise wheel. Since they have no undercoat, he is strictly an indoor cat who constantly seeks out warm spots. If you want a decorative couch cat, do not get an Oriental. But if you're ready to invest in XXL furniture and want a brilliantly smart, fiercely loyal companion, you will absolutely love this breed.
